How to Calculate Titration
What is Titration?
Titration is an analytical technique to determine the unknown concentration of a solution by reacting it with a solution of known concentration (the titrant) until the reaction is complete (the equivalence point), signalled by a colour change indicator.
Step-by-Step Guide
- 1Fill burette with titrant of known concentration (Ca)
- 2Add measured volume of analyte (Va) to flask with indicator
- 3Add titrant drop by drop until colour changes (endpoint)
- 4Record titrant volume used (Vb)
- 5Cb = Ca × Va / Vb (for 1:1 stoichiometry)
Worked Examples
Input
0.1M HCl 25mL titrated against NaOH · endpoint at 20mL
Result
NaOH concentration = 0.125M
0.1×25/20=0.125M
