Transudative effusions most commonly result from heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and nephrotic syndrome, and generally do not require diagnostic pleural aspiration beyond initial confirmation. - 1Perform diagnostic pleural aspiration (thoracocentesis) under ultrasound guidance; collect 20–60 mL of fluid into appropriate sample tubes.

What is the difference between an exudate and a transudate?
