Customers acquired through organic search, referrals, or brand marketing often have 2–3x higher LTV than those acquired through paid performance advertising — yet CAC may be lower too. Identifying these high-LTV channels and investing disproportionately in them is often the highest-ROI growth strategy available.

The LTV argument justified Amazon's near-zero operating margins for over a decade, and proved correct: Amazon Prime members today spend approximately 4x more annually than non-Prime customers.
