Wind increases the rate of heat loss by continuously replacing the layer of warm air near the skin with cooler ambient air. The Environment Canada / NWS formula (2001) uses wind speed and air temperature to calculate the apparent feels-like temperature. It applies when the actual temperature is ≤ 10°C and wind speed > 4.8 km/h.
