Disease activity is classified as: remission (total score 0–2, no sub-score >1); mild disease (3–5); moderate disease (6–10); severe disease (11–12). The Partial Mayo Score (PMS), which omits the endoscopic subscore, is used for day-to-day clinical monitoring and in clinical trials as an endpoint for patient-reported outcomes. The endoscopic subscore alone (Mayo Endoscopic Score, MES) is increasingly used as the primary endpoint in clinical trials, with mucosal healing defined as MES 0 or 1.
